I’ll be honest — Ballymore Web Works should probably post more regularly. And from working with small businesses, I know this is something a lot of people struggle with when it comes to websites and social media.
There are stretches where the website could do with an update. Times when social media goes quiet. Blog ideas (like this one) that sit on my ‘to do list’ longer than they should.
And the reason is simple. I’m busy working with clients.
This isn’t just me
If you’re running a small business, you already know how this story goes and I see this all the time with small businesses around Kildare and beyond.
You’ve every intention of:
- updating your website
- posting on social media
- sharing your work
- keeping things fresh and active
But then the day fills up as paying work comes in. Customers need attention. Jobs need to be done.
And the content? Well, it just slips.
Not because it doesn’t matter (because it does) but because something else matters more in the moment.
It’s not a motivation problem
Most people I work with aren’t short on ideas.
They know what they could post:
- recent jobs
- before and after photos
- tips or advice
- updates about their business
The issue is time and having the headspace to do it.
When you’ve finished a full day’s work, the last thing you want to do is sit down and think:
“Right, what should I post now?”
So it gets pushed to tomorrow. Then to next week. Then “when things quieten down”. And to be honest, they rarely do.
What actually happens over time
When content keeps slipping, a few things tend to follow:
- The website starts to feel a bit outdated
- Social media becomes inconsistent
- Good work isn’t being shown
- Potential customers don’t get a clear picture of what you do
None of this happens overnight. It just builds slowly.
And to be fair — it’s understandable
If anything, this is part and parcel of running a business properly.
You’re prioritising:
- paying work
- existing customers
- getting the job done well
That’s exactly what you should be doing. But it does leave a gap.
This is where support actually helps
This is exactly why I offer content and website support as part of Ballymore Web Works.
Not because business owners don’t care about their website or marketing but because they don’t always have the time to stay consistent with it.
Sometimes you don’t need a big strategy or a full rebrand.
You just need:
- someone to update your website
- someone to keep things ticking over
- someone to take “I must do that” off your list
Consistency beats bursts of effort
One of the biggest misconceptions is that you need to do a lot.
In reality:
- small updates done regularly work better
- simple posts are enough
- keeping things current matters more than being perfect
It’s about staying visible and up to date, without it becoming another job in itself.
A more realistic way to approach it
If your website or social media has been sitting on the long finger, you’re not alone.
It doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. It just means you’re busy running your business.
And if you’d rather focus on that, while someone else helps keep your online presence moving in the background, that’s exactly the kind of support I provide.
If that sounds familiar
If keeping your website or content up to date keeps slipping down the list, feel free to get in touch.
No pressure, no big pitch, just a straightforward chat about what might make things easier for you.
